MOMO Wheels began with a passion for motor racing by Giampiero Moretti, an amateur racing driver from Italy in the early 1960s. One day Moretti asked a friend to make him a very special steering wheel for his race car. That special steering wheel started MOMO wheels. It was smaller than normal but presented a most original feature, namely a very large handgrip that offered a much better hold, making the Moretti's race car easier to handle and drive.

Request for this new steering wheel began and what had started as a passion grew into a new business. In 1966 a plant to produce these steering wheels was opened in Tregnago, near Verona, Italy. This was the birth of MOMO who's initials stand for Moretti-Monza). Monza, for the Monza Grand prix.
The first order was from Ferrari which had decided to use MOMO steering wheels on all its racing cars. MOMO began to
diversify production and started to produce light alloy wheels in the 1980s.
